Microphone Techniques
· Understanding microphone pickup patterns and polar patterns
· Techniques for proper microphone placement
· Introduction to boom operation and lavalier miking
· Practical exercises in capturing clean dialogue and ambient sounds
Week 3
Recording Equipment and Gear
· Overview of sound recording equipment (mixers, recorders, accessories)
· Introduction to sound monitoring and playback systems
· Basics of field recording techniques and best practices
· Practical exercises in setting up and operating recording equipment
Week 4
Sound Design Principles
· Understanding the elements of sound design (dialogue, sound effects, music)
· Basics of sound editing and mixing software (e.g., Pro Tools, Adobe Audition)
· Introduction to Foley and ADR (Automated Dialogue Replacement)
· Practical exercises in sound design and editing
Week 5-6
Production Projects
· Students will work in teams to record sound for short films or scenes
· Emphasis on applying sound recording techniques learned throughout the course
· Instructors will provide guidance and feedback throughout the production process
· Presentation and critique of final sound recordings at the end of Week 6
· This structure allows students to gain foundational knowledge in sound recording techniques and then immediately apply them in practical production projects, helping to reinforce their learning through hands-on experience.
